4 Months 1 Day

July 28, 2008 at 2:45 pm (Uncategorized)

It has been 4 months since Olivia was born. Can you believe it? Jeez it’s gone by fast. I was looking at “old” pictures the other night, and I can’t believe how big she’s gotten. We went to the doctors this morning for her 4 month well care check up…she weighs 14Lbs, 10oz (75th%) & she is 23″ long (10th%)…so she’s still my little teapot (short & stout) but she’s not as peanut headed as she used to be, her head has grown from the 8% to 40%, so I guess that’s good and it’s not as flat as everybody thinks it is (which is really getting on my nerves, btw. She is a BABY. Babies sleep on their back, of course her head is going to be a little flat!! Why does everybody need to point that out?? Especially Korean people that don’t speak english!?!) Anyways, the doctor said it’s not that bad, it should round out on it’s own as she gets older and spends less time on her back. And she reassured me by completely nixing the helmet idea. Whew. Although, it wouldn’t be so bad because atleast I would be able to decorate it and make it a little bit cute (years ago when I worked at the Mail Counter full time, and painting those boxes, a customer had me paint/decorate her son’s helmet with trucks and dinosaurs, it was cute, the word spread, and I had hella mommy’s with baby-flat-head-helmets coming in to get them decorated, funny, huh? That’s how I knew about the helmets in the first place)

Anyhoot, so MissLivie is doing really well. Dr.Griffin didn’t think that she even heard her heart murmur, so hopefully that’s all gone and done with. And (not related to the murmur) we can start her on “solid” food anytime. But I think I’m going to wait a little longer. At this time it would just be an introduction, just for fun really, but once she hits 6 months I guess she starts to really eat-eat real food, so it’s a good idea to start introducing it to her now. So maybe another month or so, who knows, I’ll probably get bored and do rice cereal sooner than later.

Ew, so on totally disgusting and disturbing note…I’ve been working at the Mail Counter part time for the last couple months (I get to bring Olivia with me, so I thought – what the hell? Sure) Well last week when I tweaked my back and I didn’t come in, a certain dirty girl that used to date my brother came in and worked. She brought her dog in too. Which is fine, I’ve brought Cash in here a couple times when it was ridiculously hot because there’s AC in here. Well when I came in the next day, the place is covered in hair, but whatever, right, the cleaners came and vacuumed that night, and I didn’t really give it another thought…. So when Olivia is here and needs to eat, I lock the doors, put up a be back in 15 minutes sign, and sit on the floor behind the counter and breastfeed her. WELL, gross me out the door! I’m sitting there feeding her, and there is a FLEA on my baby’s chest!! SICK!! I tried to catch it and squeeze the shit out of it, but it got away! Then later Olivia has a huge bite on the inside of her eye, so red it sort of looked like she had a black eye (but red)!! I am totally disgusted! Thank gawd my mom came by and picked her up right after that. That is so sick, I don’t want her to even come in here any more. In fact I’m so grossed out that I don’t even want to be in here any more. I feel all creepy crawly and itchy. *gag* I’m sooooo glad that next Friday is my last day!!! (Now technically I don’t know how the flea(s) got there, she is just my educated guess)

John’s birthday is next week too. The 7th. He’s going to be 30!! Holy moly. Most of our friends are already 30, with the exception of ME, still 29!! So it’s not that big of a shock. So we were thinking of playing broomball. I’ve never done it, but I guess you can rent out the ice skating rink at (formerly known as) Vallco specifically for broomball, and you play in your tennies, not on ice skates, so that’s fun too. I’m waiting to hear back from the place to see how much all this costs, then we’ll. But we thought it’d be hella fun. AND, omg, the best part if we do this, since it’s not really a surprise party or anything, but I like little surprises, so I thought how funny would it be if everybody showed up wearing shirts with John’s ice skating picture on it?? A few years ago, John left for a party without me, and I was kind of mad, and his mom had just given me all these old pictures of John, and there was this one of him ice skating. Totally gay picture of him ice skating. I don’t care if he was only like 8. It was totally gay! He was wearing a striped sweater, like Ernie (of Bert & Ernie) wears, and he was in some ballerina like pose – but in ice skates. He hates that picture. So, I put it on a tshirt and wore it to the party. Hahahhahaha, it was hilarious! No, I didn’t just pin it on a shirt, I actually took the time to scan it into the computer, and you know me, being so crafty and all, had some printable iron on stuff, so I printed it out and ironed it on a shirt. Aahahahah, good times. So anyways, wouldn’t it be funny if everybody was wearing that tshirt?? I think that sounds like a great birthday celebration, humiliating the birthday boy! So we’ll see…but if that doesn’t work out, I’m open to any suggestions you might have.

Can you tell I’m at work? I’m bored that’s why this post is so long…

Hmmm, what else is going on? I quit my job. Did I say that already? Well, I did it. I wrote my letter of resignation, and told my pricipal. No big deal. I mean I think he was disappointed, but oh well. Too bad, so sad.

Welp, not much else to report…Enjoy your Monday!

My Goodness

July 22, 2008 at 7:05 pm (Uncategorized)

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I need to get on track!

Welp, MissOlivia is getting bigger and bigger everyday, and becoming much more of a person. I didn’t think that it was possible, but I fall more and more in love with her everyday! She’s like a real baby now, not that blob of a newborn anymore. She is getting so big, she’s on the verge of rolling over on her own, which is kind of exciting. Her hair is getting longer, her legs chubbier and her personality is coming out. She definitely has a temper! But she can turn it off in a snap, very dramatic, don’t know where she gets that from!

Anyways, her unofficial weight is 14Lbs, 9.5oz, we go to the dr’s next week, so we’ll see if the scale at the Mail Counter is accurate. So she has surpassed doubling her weight before reaching 4 months, which is probably why I’m at home right now. I don’t know how I did it, but I totally tweaked my back. It’s awful. I do have a history of lower back problems, but this is different. It’s my whole right side of my back, I think it’s a pulled muscle or something, but thank gawd it’s not affecting my legs or neck as well. But it is hindering my baby carrying ability, so John stayed home to help me most of the day, he just left to take care of a work problem.

So speaking of work…we’ve made a decision. It’s exciting and scary all at the same time. But I am going to quit my job at Carden. It’s really bittersweet. But I think this is really for the best. I am going to stay home with Olivia, but also take care of my good friend’s kids as well. I think it will be good practice, I’ll have a 3 yr old, a one year old and Olivia. My hands will be full, but I’m excited! Well, I’ve committed to doing that, but I have yet to tell work that I won’t be coming back. I’m such a wimp, I am so bad at quitting. I don’t know what I’m so afraid of – I mean besides making the wrong decision. Oh well, I just have to do it, right?? Well duh.

So what else is new? Oh, right now I’m obsessed with fabric and I’ve decided that I need to learn how to sew. I think I’d be good at it if I could just learn how to use a dang sewing machine. This is how the whole obsession started….it’s kind of a long (probably boring) story.

So a little while ago I joined this bunco group, we play once a month and rotate houses. Well all these Mommy’s I play with live in the Los Altos area, and all their houses look like model homes. Me, on the other hand, not so much. Well, it’s my turn to host in September and freaking out might be an understatement.  I know that my house will never look like a PotteryBarn catalog, nor would I want it to, but it would be nice if it could atleast look put together instead of a mish mash of junk. So that has become my big picture obsession. So this weekend I started on the kitchen. I decided that the big window in the “nook” needs a curtain, so I went on a mission to find fabric because although I don’t know how to sew, I do know how to iron and curtains are simple to make with some stitch witchery (fusible tape – the best stuff in the world!!) So starts my mission to find cool fabric – and omg! Who knew how much stuff I would find out there!!! All this designer fabric that really isn’t that expensive…Amy Butler, Joel Dewberry, Ann Maria Horner…very neat stuff! So, I stayed up until the wee hours “sewing” these curtains, and they are soooo freakin cute! Now I’m on a mission to make a really cute tablecloth. Ah, you might say that the tablecloth that I already have is cute enough – which is true (hahaha, I made that one too) BUT I can’t use that one anymore BECAUSE we bought a “new” dining room table. Well, it’s old, we bought it on Craigslist, but it’s very cool. Well, not really, but I made it really cool. I decided that a round pedestal table would go way better in our kitchen with our banquette, so I found this very inexpensive 48″ round table from 1978, it is perfect for us because it came with 2 leaves that extend it into a 72″ oval. It was all wood, and the lady kept it in really good condition. We went to get it and she was all sentimental about it, telling me how it was her first “family table” and how to polish it with Olde English (you mean like a 40??) and la la la…I didn’t have the heart to tell her that I was going to paint the thing, so I just smiled and said not to worry, it was going to a nice home. And oh yes, as soon as I got home I whipped out that primer, covered up all that beautiful oak, slapped on 3 coats of super gloss orange and a coat of polyurethane, and VIOLA a beautifully tacky piece of furniture that I absolutely love, love, love!! I’ll have to post some pics as soon as I get that tablecloth done.

So, yeah, that’s what’s new and exciting in the FamiLEEzy household.

Here are some pics…

Our first 4th of July (Olivia was wearing a cute dress, but it got cold)We went swimming with some of the guys over at Chris’ house, I don’t know if they realized that they were in the shot…

A couple weeks later, on a nice hot day, we all went swimming, Olivia’s first time & she loved it! And I don’t think she could have looked any cuter in her little cherry bathing suit!

And here are just some other randoms…

100 Day Celebration

July 5, 2008 at 11:09 am (Uncategorized)

Today is Olivia’s 100th day of life…in Korean culture it’s a milestone so it’s celebrated with family & close friends. Well, since Olivia is half Korean, we’re having a small BBQ in the park today. John and I have been up since 6 this morning (which is super early for us) he ran over to the park to “reserve” the tables we want, and has been running errands all morning. Me, on the other hand has been sitting around the house. Well, Olivia decided to sleep until 7am, so I things to take to the park ready before she woke up. Then she got up and we played for a little bit, and she went back down at about 7:45. Usually this little nap last maybe 45 minutes…today it was an hour and 20 minutes. But that was good, it gave me a chance to shower & take my time getting dressed. When she got up, I gave her a bath and got her ready, then she got super cranky. I swaddled her and she went to sleep without a peep. That was 10 o’clock. The “party” starts at 11 o’clock and I still have to go to Costco to pick up the cake. Guess what? It’s 11 o’clock now, and guess who’s still asleep?? This is not normal. She NEVER naps for this long, it’s always a struggle to get her to sleep and then it’ll only last 20 mins! WTF, Olivia?! She must be having a growth spurt or something! Last night she went to sleep at 8:45, and slept all the way through until 7 this morning! She usually gets up once to eat…weird. So anyways, I’m just sitting here, waiting. My mom just called, and she’s going to come over here and wait for the little one to wake up, so that I can go pick up the frkn cake. Oh well, honestly, I’m not that disappointed about being late to the Korean festivities, but I do feel a little bad that the guest of honor is missing it…I think I’ll get over it though.
