It’s Monday, again. I’m bored, and tired. Seriously, if I closed my eyes I’d instantly be asleep. These days I’m averaging about 3-4 hours of sleep, which sucks. I’m definitely a 10-hours of sleep a night kind of girl. I usually go to bed around 11, fall asleep really easy, I get up to pee around 1 o’clock in the morning, and then this crazy thing in my belly starts going absolutely nuts until atleast 4-5 am, making sleep impossible. I guess it’s just getting me ready for what’s to come once she’s born, but, gimme a break! She’s getting bigger everyday, which means the space she has to move around in there is minimal, and it’s so weirdly uncomfortable. She stretches, and wiggles, and turns. Sometimes I feel like she’s some sort of spiderman spawn, creeping and clawing at the inside of my stomach, like how he climbs up the sides of buildings…that’s what it feels like. It creeps me out sometimes. And it’s so weird to watch it happening. I will never look at a pregnant woman’s belly the same ever again. If you’re ever sitting and waiting somewhere, like the DMV or in the dr.’s office, and there’s a pregnant lady there too, just stare at her belly, I bet you’ll see it move. I can’t believe how often baby causes my belly to poke out in random places and jolt & jiggle. So, yeah, next time you get a chance to stare at a preggo belly, take advantage, it’s a fun way to get grossed out.

So was anybody else disappointed with this weekends calm and mild weather?? What the heck? I was expecting this big huge storm, and it didn’t even rain on Saturday! Bogus! And today, they said on Friday that it was going to be tinkering on craziness, and yes, there was hail for about 2 minutes around 8:30, but then it immediately turned into blue, sunny sky. I see some dark clouds rolling in, but nothing impressive. Bullshizz, I tell you!

Our new carpet is supposed to be installed today. Gawd, if it all goes in smoothly, I will be the happiest girl on the block! We’ve been living in chaos since Saturday. All our furniture is in the living room & kitchen, except the mattress, which we left in the bedroom to sleep on. I’m glad to have the chance to start fresh & clean though, and I’m super excited to get the crib put together and all the furniture in the baby’s room! Yay!

I went home for lunch & to check on how the carpet’s going…and it’s BEAUTIFUL! It almost went smoothly, nothing major though. So we discussed with the guy that came out and measured that they would remove the closet tracks, and carpet the closets seamlessly. We have really cheap closet doors that suck, so we were going to upgrade them to trackless ones. Anyhoot, so the installers weren’t told that, and they cut the carpet so that they could go around the tracks – whoops! So they’re taking out the track, but there’s going to be a seam….to make a long story short, we got $200 knocked off our price. Nice!

When it Rains it Pours

January 24, 2008 at 5:04 pm (Uncategorized)

I love the anticipation of a big storm! It’s so exciting! I hope it’s so big that school gets cancelled! Psht, yeah right! Like that will happen! Instead it will be freezing and pouring all day, the kids will be all crazy from being couped up, and then I’ll have to go stand out in the icy, wet chaos for 15 minutes after school doing dismissal/traffic duty. (hahaha, way to be positive, Leslie!)

Anyhoot, yay! Tomorrow’s Friday! The next week or so looks pretty hectic…this weekend we’re moving all the furniture out of all 3bedrooms so that our new carpet can be installed on Monday. You have NO idea how excited I am to finally get this done! I feel like everything has been on hold (baby room wise) because of this GD carpet situation. It will be so nice to get the crib put together and situated in her room. Then the wall decals can be put up, and it will really look like her room!

This week I went and bought what seems like millions of hangers, and washed all her clothes, hung and folded them. Oh my gosh, half of her closet is already full, along with a jam packed drawer of the changing table. It’s so funny how much she already has! I have had to use all my will power these last couple of weeks not to go out shopping for baby stuff, but I’ve done good. Most of the clothes in the closet were Christmas gifts and hand me downs, so I don’t feel so bad.

I’m having my first shower next weekend, and I’m really excited! It’ll be fun to see people I haven’t seen in a while, and share my “pregnancy glow” with them (ew, cheesy!) That also means that I’m getting closer to meeting my baby! It seriously feels like I have been pregnant forever, and I’m ready to meet her already. Next Thursday we’re going to do the 3D ultrasound, I can’t wait!! It’s like a sneak peek! I really don’t know what to expect – but I’m hoping that she’s still a girl. And that she has some hair. I’m just so excited.

So, yeah, next week we have to put all the furniture back after the carpet goes in – well, I have to supervise all the furniture going back in – we have a birthday dinner for my dad & stepsister, I have the ultrasound, a nail appointment, and a baby shower… that’s quite a week. I’m looking forward to it!!

Baby Update

Week 27: Fetal Development: Sense of Taste and Sound

Beginning at this stage of fetal development, your baby’s length will be measured from top of head to toe — which makes your baby nearly a full 15 inches now. And at just over two pounds, he or she has doubled in weight from four weeks ago.

Most babies this age, yours included, still like to snuggle in a slightly curled position inside the uterus (thus the term “fetal position”). Even so, beginning at this stage, your baby’s length will be measured from top of head to toe — which makes your baby nearly a full 15 inches now. And at just over two pounds, he or she has doubled in weight from four weeks ago.

Your baby’s auditory development (hearing) is progressing as the network of nerves to the ears matures. And even though the sounds your baby hears are muffled (thanks to the creamy coating of vernix covering those ears), he or she may recognize both yours and your partner’s voices.  So this might be a good time to read and even sing to your baby (or rather, your belly) — and a good chance to start boning up on those nursery rhymes and lullabies you’ll need to be repeating (and repeating) pretty soon. And while you’re at it, here’s another way to have some family fun: If your partner presses his ear to your belly, he might be able to hear the baby’s heartbeat.

Your baby’s taste buds are very developed now too (with more taste buds than he or she will ever have outside the womb, actually). Need a taste test? If you eat some spicy food (you hot mama, you), your baby will be able to taste the difference in the amniotic fluid (but keep in mind that you’ll have different mealtimes, with your baby’s coming about two hours after yours). Some babies will even respond to that spicy kick by hiccupping. And although hiccups (which feel like belly spasms to you) may seem like they’re disturbing to your baby, he or she isn’t stressed at all. It’s just one more sensation that babies need to get used to.

Funny Story

January 17, 2008 at 4:15 pm (Uncategorized)

This made me laugh, so I thought I’d share it with you…

I have the 4 year old preschool class once a week on Thursday afternoons. Last week Alexa, one of the brighter students in the class, asked me why my tummy was so big – so I told her and the rest of the class that there was a baby growing in there, their reaction was fun. They were in shock, and then became silly, saying things like “Is the baby going to grow all the way up to the sky??” and giggling.

This afternoon I went in their classroom and Alexa asked me if I was having 3 babies…ummm, no. I thought that was sort of a weird question, but she’s 4, so….I start to get their painting stuff situated, and she comes up to me and asks, “well then what are those??” and grabs my boob! Ahahaha! Totally caught off guard, I wasn’t sure what the appropriate answer would be, so I just told her they’re not babies. “Oh…are those the baby’s arms??” No, I said, but that’s probably a question to ask your mommy….and we left it at that.

So far, this is by far the funniest pregnancy experience that I’ve had! I knew my boobs were getting big, but, please! But it definitely put a smile on my face, which was a nice way to end my day!

Today I had the meeting with the principal about the art show and my maternity leave. It went surprisingly well. I don’t know quite what I expected, but it went smoothly. My due date is April 20, and the art show (which is my big to-do for the school year) starts on April 21, so I didn’t really know how the boss-man felt about that. But the parent volunteers take care of most of it so there’s really nothing much to worry about, as long as I get all the students projects done. So now it’s official – March 21 (the day before Spring Break) will be my last day of school before taking the rest of the school year off for maternity leave. And I’ll still get paid in full through August, which is super nice!

Overall, today was a very good day!

97 More Days To Go…

January 14, 2008 at 11:47 am (Uncategorized)

So can you believe that this is the last week of my second trimester?? Yeah! This week I’m 26 weeks pregs. The baby is about nine and a half inches from crown to rump, and weighs about 2.2lbs. This week her eyes will open, her grip is strong and she is able to cry (great).

Last week we got our first real baby gift, the changing table. It’s really cute, I made John set it all up, it’s in the living room until our new carpet finally comes in, hopefully about a week.

The crib is still in the box in the living room along with giant boxes of hand-me-down baby clothes I have yet to go through. (Thank you Allison!) But this weekend we did manage to get a tiny bit done in there. I washed some of her clothes that we got for Christmas, bought baby hangers and hung them in the closet. I also got some cute sheer curtains and curtain rods, John’s supposed to be working on that this week. I ordered the sheet set in the picture, and I was so disappointed. It didn’t look anything like I thought it would, so I returned that.

Welp, nothing more really to report…

Archer Farms

January 9, 2008 at 1:25 pm (Uncategorized)

So I had a dr.’s appointment for the first time in a while yesterday. The most exciting part about it was that I didn’t have a co-pay. The appointment was at 4:30, when the baby is the most active, so when Dr.Gardner got out that janky heart listener thing she was totally kicking the mic. It was funny. So everything is fine. Thank gawd she didn’t say anything about my weight. I didn’t really want John to even go to the appointment because last time she said something about how much weight I’ve gained and it turned into a big ole fight afterwards between me and John. But this time she didn’t mention anything, so I guess it wasn’t that much. So everything was fine and dandy, she talked to us about preterm labor signs, which freaked me out a little bit, and I’ll probably be all paranoid for the next however many weeks.

So I don’t know if I mentioned, but for Christmas John got me a gift certificate to get the 3D/4D ultrasound done. So I made an appointment for Jan.31, I’ll be 28 and a half weeks then, hopefully we’ll be able to catch her smile or something. I am just dying to know what she looks like! I mean, I know it’s not the best picture or anything, but its a little sneak peek, which is all I want. I just can’t wait to meet her! He also bought the 15 minute DVD upgrade, so that will be a cool thing to have and share.

Anyhoot, so…Archer Farm. I have to put a good word in for this new found product. It’s Target’s food brand. They have these boxed meal things, where you just add a few ingredients and viola! They’re really cheap too! So far I’ve tried some creamy tomato pasta stuff, that was pretty good. But then I tried this chicken polenta, and oh my gawd. It says it makes 4 servings, but if that’s your main course, it makes 2 and a half. But, yeah, it’s HELLA good!! It’s not just good, but it’s pretty darn fancy. In the box it came with a can of chicken (like a can of tuna), a packet of dry ingredients for the sauce, and a log of polenta. You just simmer butter and milk with the dry ingredients and chicken for this deeeelicious sauce. Slice up the polenta and fry it, spoon the sauce over the little polenta cakes, and you have a really fancy looking dinner that seriously took like 10 minutes to make, 1% effort and less than $4! I steamed some broccoli for a side, and it was a perfect meal! Anyways, so yeah, I highly recommend it!

I’m Ba-ack!

January 7, 2008 at 1:07 pm (Uncategorized)

Ah, so sad how fast 17 days go by! I can’t believe holiday recess is over! It’s all downhill from here! Only 15 more weeks to go until the nameless baby will be here! Well, hopefully 15 weeks.

So this week I’m 25 weeks pregs, 42″ around (OMG!), and feeling pretty darn good. Baby weighs almost 2lbs this week, and measures in at about 13 inches, head to toe. At this point I am enjoying pregnancy more that I ever thought I would. I love feeling her move around, she gets stronger and stronger every day, I’m totally used to it now, and I can’t imagine it not happening, but it’s still weird.

So, what have I been doing with myself for the last 2 weeks? Well, after Christmas I pretty much just relaxed and cleaned up the house. John & Jodi went to Tahoe for a night, and I stayed home with the dog. It was nice to have that alone time. I cleaned house and did laundry, how exciting! After John got home we, well, let’s be honest, I decided that we really need to buckle down and get the baby’s room done. So, we painted – 3 walls pink, 1 wall white and the closet gold, which is a super cool metallic gold by Ralph Lauren. John rewired and hung up the new light fixture – a cute little crystal-ly chandelier. We ordered the crib and sheet set – they both came already, but we haven’t set up the crib yet, and I’m not too thrilled with the sheet set, I’m probably going to end up returning it, but I found another set that I really like at Target, so we’ll see. So other than that my vacation was pretty non-eventful, I was pretty much a homebody the whole time.

Now the countdown to maternity leave begins…

12 weeks to go! 7 weeks until President’s week, and then 5 weeks until Spring Break! Omg, this baby will be here in no time!
